Checking a PGP-signed Torzon onion announcement

A signature turns "someone said so" into something you can check yourself.

Account safety · 4 steps ·

  1. Get the public key once

Import the service public key from a source you trust and note its fingerprint. You will compare against it every time.

  2. Verify the message

Use your PGP tool to verify the signed announcement. A good signature from the expected fingerprint is what you are looking for.

  3. Read what is signed

Only the text inside the signed block is confirmed. Addresses added above or below it are not covered by the signature.

  4. When verification fails

A bad or missing signature means you should not use that torzon onion address, however convincing the post looks.

In short

Only addresses inside a valid signed block from the known key count as confirmed.
